I cannot even begin to count how many different blogs and bookmark sites I have started. I am hoping to use this one to make it easier for students to find the websites we are going to in class, but also on their home computers.
Thus far it is pretty blank, but I am adding lessons as we do them.
In August and early September we reviewed expectations and learned more about computers and internet safety. As September continued the younger students have continued working on basic computer skills (mouse movement and clicking) while practicing academic skills. The older students were introduced to their Google Apps for Education accounts and started using the Chromebooks in class. Into October we started keyboard skills. The littlest ones are working on just identifying the keys and finding them quickly, while the fourth through sixth graders are using a new typing website called Typing.com.
As we wrap up the month, activities will include using mouse skills to carve pumpkins, using Google Draw to create fall or Halloween decorations. Future plans include programming and coding; web design; spreadsheets; and group presentation projects. Throughout the year we will also be doing internet safety lessons at all levels.
